STRATEGIC PLAN - Major Steps, Develop a Detailed Work Plan
Within the first two to three planning meetings, the planning group develops a detailed work plan to serve as a comprehensive blue print for conducting the strategic planning effort. The work plan should identify the following:
- each major strategic planning step
- specific activities required for each step
- information requirements
- assignment of individual responsibilities
- major milestones and schedule
- resource requirements
- design of strategic planning document and other supporting documentation
The group uses then uses this work plan to plan and monitor the activities and the progress of individual meetings and the overall strategic planning process.
A framework to aid in the development of the work plan is shown below:
Notwithstanding what was previously described for the work plan in the beginning of this page, the chart above can be used to drive an even more tactical perspective. A more tactical work plan outlines in greater specific detail how a project will be conducted, who will work on which part, and when and in what order each part will be accomplished. Most tactical work plans include the following elements:
- A breakdown of the strategic plan action steps into individual projects
- A short description of each project's objective
- A list of personnel participating in the project
- A breakdown of the project into specific tasks, with indications of which tasks are dependent upon the completion of others
- A schedule indicating when each task will be started and when it will be completed and who will perform it
- A budget
